This is the Day the Lord Has Made!

Image
This is the day the Lord has made!  Let us rejoice and be glad in it! A message from Sister Lucina: "How Merciful and loving is the Lord!! My news was better that expected this morning In the week before I arrived at the clinic my cancer markers more than doubled. My test results show no spreading and the cancer markers in these three weeks went DOWN 10 points!!!!!!!!! I am speechless and so very great grateful. Thank you everyone for all your prayers. I will enjoy these two next weeks with my family ❤️" Please continue your prayers.  This is great news and we only want it to get better and better.  This indicates that Sister's cancer has been arrested and is responding to the treatments.  Over time we want to see the continued decrease in the cancer present in Sister's body, until it is no more.  It will require a faithfulness to the protocols, but given they are not bebilitating in their effects, Sister should be able to stick to it while...

Wrapping Up the First Phase

Image
On Monday, Sr. Lucina will have her exit interview at the clinic.  This includes the results of her latest blood work and tests, additional instructions until her 2 day visit in 3 months to test where she's at, etc., and arranging everything she needs to follow the protocols at home. Several of our friends have had their exit or follow-up interviews already and are delighted that their cancer is either diminishing, or in some cases, not evident at all.  Wendi's 3 tumors have shrunk.  Our friends Richard and Loreena had good news also.  His cancer was not evident in his testing results so they know they are on the right track in trying to keep it that way. The following are some pics of some of our friends:  Sister has had wonderful nurses, 2 of whom are pictured with Sister:  Gisela and Carmen!  Joaquina and Monica are two other nurses who are just as wonderful and special!  Martin and the rest of the kitchen staff are also the best, and so ...

Just Pics and a Little Update

Image
We had a good, encouraging visit with the doctor today who is wonderful and reassured Sister that the different things she is experiencing are normal.  Her body didn't get where it is overnight.  He explained that she needs to be patient but for the most part what she is experiencing is her body beginning to recognize and fight back against the foreign invader.  Fear and anxiety are definite foes in this battle.  Jesus Himself told us that fear is useless and that what is needed is trust in Him, no matter where He leads.  The doctor is happy with where Sister is, at the 2 week mark, and reminded her that she will be at this work for months to come.  So, as Sister said:  "just be patient.  It will take time." It is quite amazing, the power of words to bring peace and clarity.  So important for all of us to maintain a positive spirit.  Today we will just share some pics of the local Church here where we go to Mass (Our Lady, Star of the ...

The Resurrected Body

Image
Easter is a time for reflection on many things: the victories Christ has won for us over sin, the  flesh, the devil, death and hell. We also receive a pledge of the joy and peace and light and transformation He promises through the witness of His own Paschal mystery, the promise of empowerment with the coming of the Holy Spirit, the call to mission, and many other things besides. Perhaps one thing we do not reflect upon as much as we should, is the body, and the promise that Jesus brings to us in the qualities of His own resurrected body. "Sacred Scripture and Catholic theology teaches that our glorified resurrected bodies will experience four properties as an outflow of the beatified soul enjoying the vision of God’s essence: 1) Impassibility – the glorified body will no longer suffer physical sickness or death, as Saint Paul teaches regarding the glorified body in 1 Corinthians 15:42, “It is sown in corruption, it shall rise in incorruption.” 2) Subtlety meaning that w...

The Bounty of the Lord

Image
"I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord with courage; Be stouthearted and wait for the Lord."  Ps 27:13-14 One of the popularly preached themes in evangelical circles is facing the giants in your life in order to cross over into the promised land.  If you recall , as the Israelites were preparing to enter into the land God had promised them, Joshua and Caleb, as part of a group of 12, were sent to reconnoiter the land first and report back.  Joshua and Caleb came back positive that with the Lord's help they could enter the Promised Land.  Others in the party though allowed fear to take hold and to spread among the people.  They reported that the land was inhabited by giants and that the Israelites were no match for them.  Both Joshua and Caleb argued that the people should trust God and go forward to take possession of the land "flowing with milk and honey...

Annunciation and New Life in Christ

Image
“Those who live in Christ are not outside of God as petitioners or supplicants; rather they are in God as friends and sharers in the Spirit."   Bp Robert   Barron Yesterday, on the celebration of the Feast of the Annunciation to Our Lady, we celebrated a Baptism down at the ocean, immersion style.  Wendi, another of our good friends here, asked to be baptized. Dr. Tony and his wife Marcy gave instruction to Wendi before taking her in for total immersion.  Dr. Tony mentioned that he and his wife have always agreed that the main mission of Hope4Cancer is to bring people to God. None of us know when we will die, but our life, whether we live or die belongs to God. It was quite moving because though a real "liturgy" was missing, God continues to work among those who place no obstacles.  It reminded me of St. Paul discovering a group of believers who had been baptized but had not even heard of the Holy Spirit.  St. Paul explained their baptism to...

The Light of the World

Image
"Whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God." John 3:21 We wanted to post a little about some of the therapies that Sr. Lucina is using here. She has a pretty intense schedule but since the therapies are non-toxic she doesn't suffer the side-effects one would have with chemo, etc. However, this doesn't mean her body does not react to the therapies and that she doesn't experience side-effects at all. When the body is not healthy, making it healthy again causes reactions. So sometimes Sister experiences some discomfort and fatigue and digestive reactions to the changes. But generally speaking she has a lot of energy and her spirits are high.  And the doctors seem happy with her progress so far. She has nurses that track her and check on her and make sure she is not trying to escape any of the scheduled treatments. The hyperthermia chamber...
