Day 4: Following the Lord's Lead
C.S Lewis once wrote: "There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal."
Last evening marked two and half full days of treatment here. We were invited in the evening to participate in a praise and worship service in one of the beautifully appointed spaces here. People came and relaxed in recliners, some holding each other, and all very drawn to prayers of joy and hope and thanksgiving.
Pastor Michael, who, with his wife, has an outreach house near here for boys on the street, has a gift for music and for communicating God's love and goodness through the Word, and through his music. Music has such a gift for healing the spirit. He spoke last night about faith and about the power of our words and our need to speak goodness and blessing over our lives, our bodies and souls and spirits. He worked from the story of the woman with the hemorrhage who spent all her money to be healed, but knew Jesus was the one who could do it. And he spoke about faith and how Jesus said if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you could tell a mountain to move and it would.
"We all have mountains in our life. What is the mountain inside of you that needs to be told to move and tossed into the ocean across the street?" At this point he gave a beautiful witness regarding himself. And he then shared some other stories that touched everyone there, then led us all in spontaneous prayer and song.
This place is full of devout Christians, some evangelical and some strong Catholics. All of them love the Lord and love to speak of Him though no one is overbearing in any way. They are very respectful if you are not in the same place. (I think Sister and I are obvious lovers of the Lord by our appearance alone, and so they are quite free with us, as we are with them!)
In the next few days I will post some info on Sister's particular therapies. She is already having some results that seem to confirm things are working.
One of the things that happens here is that after your initial 3 weeks of intense treatment, you are sent home with various things to continue the protocol, including various supplements a little sound/light machine (they have a fancy name for this which I don't remember off the bat, sono-photo something) for focused treatments. In three months they want you to come back for a 3 day follow up visit where they test you and see where you are at. Then at the end of a year you come back again for a followup. All this, including bringing along a companion free of extra charge, is included in the initial cost.
Our friend Christy (above) just came for her year follow-up She had metastatic melanoma and was not given long to live nor given any hopeful options for treatment. After her first three weeks here, her cancer tested 25% reduced, and at her year checkup there was no evidence of cancer in her body at all. As you can imagine, she is a passionate proponent of this place and these approaches. Her doctor back home was astounded and told her something was obviously working. (She also was enrolled in the Seraphic Mass Association at the start and had 900 Masses said for her all over the world. She does not fail to mention that either.
By the way, if protocol sounds like a scary word, let me assure you that the food you can eat is amazing. We've had eggs and fish (salmon and white fish) and such delicious breakfasts, and lunches and dinners, that we have a hard time finishing all the food. We are bringing home the recipes which are easy and tasty and life-giving to the body. Many things we eat here, including corn tortillas, and potatoes, etc. are good because Mexico does not allow GMOs. And so the food is sourced from healthy, organic grown sources.
Finally, for today, here is a picture of some of our many friends. Some, like us, live right here in the clinic in rooms set up well for patient and companion. Some live across the street in places on the beach and come here for treatments. Our meals together are genuine, heartfelt times of sharing where people with different experiences encourage and support and counsel each other. Cancer is freely talked about, not in a frightening way. One man here said it's been a real gift in his life because it has made him see many things he would not have looked at before. The most striking thing here is the lack of fear and the lack of any kind of doom and gloom spirit. I so believe this has to be pleasing to God. St. John Paul II said that suffering in a mysterious way releases love into the world. And love is what heals us! This is what he had in mind I think!
